Venturing Into the World of Plasma TVs

To the older generations these are almost scary, they're so skinny they seem like no more than a big picture frame. They require remotes to function (in most cases) and they can actually hang on the wall instead of sitting on a table or inside an entertainment center. Of course you can do a tabletop mount to remove some of the hazards of wall mounting, but isn't the entire cool factor centered around your ability to hang it anywhere?

This feature alone makes them very versatile and also very light. Even with their obvious advantages some people are still afraid to venture in that direction. Here are some pros and cons to consider.

Pro - They're thin, light, can be hung on the wall or rested on a plasma tv stand.

Con - They're more expensive than you're standard television.

Pro - They have a much clearer picture than regular CRT televisions, allowing for incredible resolution an often come ready for high definition tv which is all the rage.

Con - Plasma isn't always as bright a screen as the old CRT versions. If your tv would be in a higher light area, especially sunlight, you'll notice a difference. If you're putting it in a low light room, especially a home theater, then this style is perfect for you.

Pro - It's small size will potentially eliminate the need for a bulky entertainment center gaining you valuable floor space in your potentially cluttered room.

Con - These TVs are more fragile and must be handled very carefully. Even laying them on their side improperly can cause permanent damage.

Before rushing out to purchase one of these be sure to research carefully with your local retailer and online to make sure this is the option for you. If it is, you'll be happy with your new TV as you step into the 21st century.
